Smarter Protection Against Winter Waste

Cold weather brings unique challenges to chemical injection. Traditionally, operators prepare for a freeze by manually increasing pump speeds “just in case.” While this approach avoids frozen lines, it often leads to over-injection of methanol, unnecessary costs, and wasted product.

That’s where our new Freeze-Protection feature comes in. Built into every advance CROSSFIRE Controller with V2.3 hardware, Freeze-Protection takes the guesswork out of winter operations by automatically adjusting methanol injection based on temperature. When the temperature drops below freezing, or a custom threshold you choose, the pump increases speed proportionally. The colder it gets, the more protection you receive, without the risk of excess.

Why It Matters for Your Site

  • Lower operating costs: No more wasted methanol from manual over-injection.
  • Improved efficiency: Injection automatically adjusts in real time, freeing operators from constant manual changes.
  • Site flexibility: Use an external temperature sensor for precise control, or the controller’s onboard sensor as a backup.
  • Customizable settings: Choose your trigger temperature and injection rate to match site conditions.

Setup is simple: just enable the feature in the controller’s settings, select your preferred temperature source, and adjust the defaults if needed. From there, Freeze-Protection runs automatically in Manual Mode, keeping your wellheads protected and your operations lean.

With this update, operators can approach winter confidently, knowing their sites are protected and their budgets safeguarded.

Ready to Get Started?

Activating Freeze-Protection is simple:

  • Enable it: setFreezeProtectEn 1
  • Disable it: setFreezeProtectEn 0
  • Check status: showFreezeProtectEn
  • View temperature: showTemp

You can use the temperature reading to confirm whether your controller has a built-in temperature sensor. If you’re using an external sensor, that value can also be pulled into the system through Modbus, though in most cases, the onboard sensor is all you need.

From there, you can adjust the injection rate increase and temperature threshold to fit your site conditions. Once enabled, the controller takes care of the rest, protecting your wellheads and reducing waste all winter long.
